لا يمكن المزايدة على مقولة الدكتور جمال حمدان بأن عبقرية المكان تخصّ السعودية دون سواها من الأماكن، وليس في ذلك غضاضة إن أردنا المقارنة، فإن سبق الدكتور جمال حمدان بصك مصطلح «عبقرية المكان» سبق لغوي، وليس جغرافياً بالمعنى الدقيق، فالسعودية قارة جاءت جغرافيتها في قلب العالم.
وكانت مجاورة للحضارات القديمة، وبعض تلك الحضارات أصبحت ضمن أراضيها في الخارطة الجغرافية والسياسية، كما أن مكة المكرمة هي مركزية الأرض (حتى إن قيل إن هذا المفهوم مفهوم ديني)، إلا أنني استخدم مصطلح عبقرية المكان وفق ما ذهب إليه بعض الأدباء والاستراتيجيين الذين تخصصوا في الجغرافيا السياسية، وهي مقاربة أرى فيها موقع السعودية.
وربما أقتفي (ميشيل بوتور) الذي وظّف هذا المصطلح في الجانب الروائي كما أفعل في رواياتي حين أحول المكان إلى بطل بين الشخصيات والأحداث.
والأمكنة تمثّل دوراً فاعلاً نشطاً في مسيرة الأحداث، والسعودية مكان نشط عبر التاريخ، وهذا ما يجعل مكانها عبقريّاً وليس هامشيّاً.
وإن أردنا الانحياز إلى مفهوم التمكين، وتكريس عظمة المكان، فالسعودية تصنع ذلك من خلال الاستراتيجية السياسية الآن.
وإن كان المؤرخ البريطاني أرنولد توينبي قد اتخذ المكان مدخلاً وفق العقائد والحضارات والثقافات، فيمكن القول إن السعودية كانت المحطة الأخيرة لتلك العقائد من خلال المفهوم الإسلامي الذي احتوى تلك الرسالات كرسالة أخيرة جامعة لما سبق من عقائد.
وعلى مستوى العمق التاريخي فمكة تمثّل ذلك العمق، فهي أول بيت وضع للناس، وهو بيت قصده كل الأنبياء، وكل الأعراق..
إذاً، ما كتبته هنا خاضع لمفهومي للمكان وعظمته، فالعظمة استمرارية في رفعة المكان، والاستمرارية تبدأ من نقطة البدء إلى آخر نقطة في التواجد البشري.
One cannot dispute the statement of Dr. Jamal Hamdan that the genius of place belongs to Saudi Arabia and no other location. There is no shame in making comparisons; Dr. Jamal Hamdan’s introduction of the term “genius of place” is a linguistic precedent, not a geographical one in the strict sense, as Saudi Arabia is a continent whose geography lies at the heart of the world.
It has been adjacent to ancient civilizations, some of which have become part of its territory on the geographical and political map. Moreover, Mecca is considered the center of the earth (even if this concept is regarded as a religious one). However, I use the term genius of place in line with the views of some writers and strategists who specialize in political geography, which is an approach I see reflected in Saudi Arabia’s location.
Perhaps I follow (Michel Butor), who employed this term in the narrative aspect, just as I do in my novels when I turn the place into a character among the characters and events.
Places play an active and dynamic role in the course of events, and Saudi Arabia has been an active place throughout history, which makes its location genius rather than marginal.
If we want to lean towards the concept of empowerment and the affirmation of the greatness of place, Saudi Arabia is achieving that through its current political strategy.
And while the British historian Arnold Toynbee approached place through doctrines, civilizations, and cultures, it can be said that Saudi Arabia was the final station for those doctrines through the Islamic concept that encompassed those messages as the final, unifying message for all previous doctrines.
On a deeper historical level, Mecca represents that depth, as it is the first house established for people, a house visited by all prophets and all races.
Thus, what I have written here is subject to my understanding of place and its greatness, as greatness is a continuity in the elevation of place, and continuity begins from the starting point to the last point of human existence.
