أطلقت الشرطة البريطانية خطوة غير مسبوقة لجذب المزيد من النساء المسلمات، بعد تطوير حجاب مغناطيسي مبتكر يُعرف باسم «حجاب الضوء الأزرق» Blue Light Hijab، صُمم خصيصاً لمنع الاختناق أو السحب أثناء المواجهات الميدانية، مع الحفاظ على كرامة الشرطيات.
ويعتمد الحجاب على مشبك مغناطيسي ينفصل تلقائيًا عند الشد، دون كشف الشعر، ما يضمن حماية الشرطية في الميدان مع الحفاظ على مظهرها الديني بالكامل. وقد بدأت شرطة ليسترشير بالفعل بتوزيعه، فيما أبدت قوات أخرى اهتمامها بتطبيقه لاحقًا، وحتى خدمات الطوارئ مثل المسعفين قد تعتمد النسخة قريبًا.
وقالت قائدة المبادرة المحققة الرقيب ياسين ديساي إن فكرة الحجاب الآمن طُرحت قبل 20 عامًا، لكن تطويرها استغرق سنوات من البحث والتجربة، مؤكدة أن التصميم الجديد آمن، وعملي، ويحمي كرامة النساء المسلمات.
وتأتي هذه المبادرة في ظل سعي الشرطة البريطانية لتعزيز التنوع، إذ يشكّل المسلمون 2.5% فقط من عناصر الشرطة رغم تمثيلهم 6% من سكان المملكة المتحدة، كما تسلط الضوء على التحديات التي تواجه الشرطيات المسلمات، بما في ذلك الاعتداءات الجسدية واللفظية وسحب الحجاب أثناء أداء المهمات.
ولا يعزز المشروع السلامة فحسب، بل يرسل رسالة قوية مفادها بأن الشرطة يمكن أن تكون مكانًا آمنًا ومفتوحًا لكل النساء، بغض النظر عن الدين أو الثقافة، ويأمل المسؤولون أن يشجع هذا الابتكار مزيدًا من النساء على الانضمام إلى صفوفهم.
The British police have launched an unprecedented step to attract more Muslim women, after developing an innovative magnetic hijab known as the “Blue Light Hijab,” designed specifically to prevent choking or pulling during field confrontations, while maintaining the dignity of female officers.
The hijab relies on a magnetic clasp that automatically detaches under tension, without exposing the hair, ensuring the officer’s protection in the field while fully preserving her religious appearance. Leicestershire Police have already begun distributing it, while other forces have expressed interest in implementing it later, and even emergency services like paramedics may adopt the version soon.
The initiative’s leader, Sergeant Yasin Desai, stated that the idea of a safe hijab was proposed 20 years ago, but its development took years of research and experimentation, confirming that the new design is safe, practical, and protects the dignity of Muslim women.
This initiative comes amid the British police’s efforts to enhance diversity, as Muslims make up only 2.5% of police officers despite representing 6% of the UK population. It also highlights the challenges faced by Muslim female officers, including physical and verbal assaults and the pulling of hijabs during duty.
The project not only enhances safety but also sends a strong message that the police can be a safe and open place for all women, regardless of religion or culture, and officials hope this innovation will encourage more women to join their ranks.
