شهدت رحلة تابعة لشركة الخطوط الجوية البريطانية (British Airways)، متجهة من مطار لندن هيثرو إلى جامايكا، حالة من الفوضى غير المعتادة، بعدما بدأ عدد من الركاب بالغناء ورفع الأصوات وإلقاء مواعظ دينية على متن الطائرة، في مشهد استمر لنحو ثلاث ساعات، وفقًا لوسائل إعلام بريطانية.

وبحسب ماكسين مونرو (56 عامًا)، وهي ممرضة من منطقة كرويدون، فقد اندلعت الأحداث بعد نحو ساعة واحدة من إقلاع الرحلة، وقالت مونرو، التي نشرت مقاطع مصوّرة لما جرى على حسابها في تطبيق (تيك توك)، إن الغناء والوعظ استمرا لأكثر من ساعتين ونصف الساعة.

وتُظهر مقاطع الفيديو رجلًا يقف على مقعده وهو يعظ بقية الركاب، في حين وقف آخرون على مقاعدهم لتصوير المشهد، بينما كانت امرأة أخرى تسير بين الممرات مشجعة الركاب على الانضمام إلى الغناء الجماعي.

وقالت مونرو تعليقًا على ما حدث: «من الطبيعي أحيانًا أن يدعو شخص قبل الإقلاع، أو أن تسمع دعاءً أثناء اضطرابات جوية، لكن ليس بهذا الشكل وعلى هذا النطاق، كنت مندهشة أن يحدث ذلك ونحن على ارتفاع 40 ألف قدم، في مرحلة ما شعرت أننا بحاجة إلى الهدوء والراحة».

وأشارت إلى أن بعض الركاب واصلوا الوقوف على المقاعد رغم إضاءة علامة ربط الأحزمة، وهو ما أثار قلق عدد من المسافرين، مضيفة أن كثيرين قالوا إنهم «لن يتمكنوا من تحمّل رحلة كهذه».

ونفت مونرو أن يكون الكحول سببًا فيما جرى، بعدما تساءل بعض المتابعين على مواقع التواصل عمّا إذا كانت الطائرة تواجه خطرًا، مؤكدة: «لا، الطائرة لم تكن في أي خطر على الإطلاق».

وقد أثارت المقاطع المصوّرة، التي نُشرت على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، انقسامًا حادًا في آراء المتابعين، ففي حين رأى البعض أن ما جرى تصرّف إيجابي وبعث على الطمأنينة، عبّر آخرون عن غضبهم الشديد.

وكتب أحد المعلقين: «هذا ما نحتاجه في كل رحلة! الرجل كان يحمي الجميع وليس نفسه فقط».

في المقابل، قال آخر: «هذا كان سيغضبني كثيرًا»، بينما علّق ثالث بلهجة حادة معبرًا عن انزعاجه الشديد مما حدث.

من جانبها، أوضحت مونرو أنها حاولت التعامل مع الموقف بتسامح، رغم غرابته، إلا أن الحادثة أعادت فتح النقاش حول حدود السلوك المقبول على متن الطائرات، وحق الركاب في الهدوء والراحة أثناء الرحلات الطويلة.

A British Airways flight from London Heathrow to Jamaica experienced an unusual state of chaos after several passengers began singing, raising their voices, and delivering religious sermons on board, in a scene that lasted for about three hours, according to British media.

According to Maxine Monroe, a 56-year-old nurse from Croydon, the events erupted about an hour after the flight took off. Monroe, who posted video clips of what happened on her TikTok account, stated that the singing and preaching continued for more than two and a half hours.

Videos show a man standing on his seat preaching to the other passengers, while others stood on their seats to film the scene, and another woman walked down the aisles encouraging passengers to join in the group singing.

Monroe commented on the incident: “It’s normal sometimes for someone to pray before takeoff, or to hear a prayer during turbulence, but not like this and to this extent. I was shocked that this happened at 40,000 feet; at one point, I felt we needed calm and rest.”

She noted that some passengers continued to stand on their seats despite the seatbelt sign being illuminated, which raised concerns among several travelers, adding that many said they “would not be able to endure a flight like this.”

Monroe denied that alcohol was a factor in what occurred, after some social media followers questioned whether the plane was in danger, affirming: “No, the plane was not in any danger at all.”

The video clips, which were shared on social media, sparked a sharp division in opinions among viewers. While some saw what happened as a positive act that brought reassurance, others expressed their intense anger.

One commenter wrote: “This is what we need on every flight! The man was protecting everyone, not just himself.”

In contrast, another said: “This would have angered me a lot,” while a third commented sharply, expressing his extreme discomfort with what happened.

For her part, Monroe explained that she tried to handle the situation with tolerance, despite its strangeness, but the incident reopened the discussion about the limits of acceptable behavior on airplanes and passengers’ right to peace and comfort during long flights.
