حذرت مؤسسة بيل غيتس اليوم (الخميس)، من أزمة صحية عالمية جديدة، إذ من المتوقع أن يموت نحو 200 ألف طفل إضافي قبل بلوغ الخامسة خلال هذا العام مقارنة بعام 2024، بسبب تراجع المساعدات الدولية الذي يقوض سنوات من التقدم في حماية حياة الأطفال.

وأوضح رئيس المؤسسة بيل غيتس أن هذا الارتفاع سيكون الأول في وفيات الأطفال القابلة للوقاية منذ بداية القرن، وقد يرفع عدد الوفيات من 4.6 مليون عام 2024 إلى 4.8 مليون طفل هذا العام، بعد أن انخفضت هذه الوفيات إلى النصف تقريبًا منذ عام 2000.

وأشار التقرير السنوي للمؤسسة بعنوان «حراس الأهداف» إلى أن تخفيضات المساعدات بدأت في الولايات المتحدة خلال بداية العام، لكنها امتدت سريعًا إلى مانحين رئيسيين مثل بريطانيا وألمانيا، ما أدى إلى انخفاض التمويل العالمي للصحة بنحو 27% مقارنة بعام 2024.

وأكد التقرير أن هذه التخفيضات، إضافة إلى عوامل مثل الديون المتزايدة وضعف الأنظمة الصحية في بعض الدول، تمثل السبب الرئيسي في تراجع التقدم المحرز في حماية حياة الأطفال. وحذر من أن استمرار هذا الاتجاه قد يؤدي إلى زيادة وفيات الأطفال لتراوح بين 12 و16 مليون طفل بحلول عام 2045، بحسب تقديرات المعهد الصحي الدولي في جامعة واشنطن.

ودعا بيل غيتس الحكومات والمؤسسات والأفراد إلى تكثيف الجهود والاستثمار في حلول فعالة، مثل برامج التطعيم والرعاية الصحية الأولية، لضمان حماية الأطفال وتقليل الوفيات. وأكد أن العالم يقف على مفترق طرق، بين الحفاظ على الإنجازات السابقة أو العودة إلى أرقام قاتمة في وفيات الأطفال.

The Bill Gates Foundation warned today (Thursday) of a new global health crisis, as it is expected that around 200,000 additional children will die before the age of five this year compared to 2024, due to a decline in international aid that undermines years of progress in protecting children’s lives.

Foundation President Bill Gates explained that this increase will be the first in preventable child deaths since the beginning of the century, potentially raising the death toll from 4.6 million in 2024 to 4.8 million children this year, after these deaths had nearly halved since 2000.

The foundation’s annual report titled “Guardians of the Goals” indicated that aid cuts began in the United States at the start of the year, but quickly extended to major donors such as Britain and Germany, leading to a global health funding decline of about 27% compared to 2024.

The report confirmed that these cuts, along with factors such as rising debt and weak health systems in some countries, represent the main reason for the decline in progress made in protecting children’s lives. It warned that if this trend continues, child deaths could increase to between 12 and 16 million by 2045, according to estimates from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.

Bill Gates urged governments, institutions, and individuals to intensify efforts and invest in effective solutions, such as vaccination programs and primary healthcare, to ensure the protection of children and reduce mortality. He emphasized that the world stands at a crossroads, between maintaining past achievements or returning to grim figures in child mortality.
