لا يزال العلم يكشف لنا أسرار الحياة؛ بدءاً من تفاصيل صغيرة تتسع في دائرتها لتشمل أبعاداً كونية أكبر، وأعظم الحقائق الحادثة من حولنا لا نبصرها بأعيننا مع أننا جزء منها، نسير فيها داخل نظام كوني مترابط، تتحرك فيه الكواكب والنجوم في نظام فلكي متقن، فلا تتصادم ولا تطغى على بعضها، وكذلك الحياة تسير من حولنا تبعاً لهذا التوازن المدهش والتناغم المذهل، والقرآن الكريم أشار إلى هذا التوازن والنظام الدقيق في أكثر من موقع (لا الشمس ينبغي لها أن تدرك القمر ولا الليل سابق النهار وكل في فلك يسبحون).
فكما هو الحال في الكون الكبير نجد نظاماً مشابهاً في العالم الصغير داخل الذرة، حيث تتحرك الإلكترونات في مداراتها بحثاً عن التوازن والاستقرار. وفي السعي نحو الاستقرار تكون المقايضة بين طرفي كيانين؛ هي صفقة وجودية، فكما يكون الأخذ مكملاً لأحد الأطراف يولد الاستقرار من العطاء، وتتجلى هذه الأفكار في إعجاز كيمياء الذرات المجهرية، فذرة «الصوديوم» النشط تمنح جزءاً من شحنتها لذرة «الكلور» السام لينتج «ملح الطعام».
وكما الكسب والمشاركة يصنعان الاستقرار؛ فالفقد والمنح أحياناً يكونان سبباً لخلق نسخة أقوى من ذاتنا وأكثر استقراراً واتزاناً وطمأنينة، فتغدو الحياة أبسط وأجمل. وفي غرابة الوجود يخرج الخير والشر من أصل واحد، مع اختلاف النشأة والتوجيه. فالكون يرعى فكرة التباين في التوجهات والأفكار، فكما «الهيدروجين» سلاح نووي من صنع الإنسان، وهو الأخطر على حياة البشرية، هو نفسه العنصر الذي يتحد مع «الأكسجين» لينتج أساس الحياة (الماء)، وهنا تتجلى مسؤولية الإنسان في حسن الاختيار بين البناء والهدم، وبين الخير والشر.
تلك الحقائق نعيشها ولا ندرك عمقها في عالمنا الذي لا نبصر فيه إلا حدود طيفنا المرئي، هي دعوة للتأمل وإطلاق العنان للبصيرة، فيما يمنح القلب الطمأنينة والتسليم بحكمة الله في كون وسعت رحمته كل شيء فيه.
Science continues to reveal to us the secrets of life; starting from small details that expand to encompass greater cosmic dimensions, and the greatest truths happening around us that we do not perceive with our eyes, even though we are a part of them. We move within an interconnected cosmic system, where planets and stars move in a precise celestial order, avoiding collisions and not overpowering one another. Likewise, life around us flows according to this amazing balance and stunning harmony, and the Holy Quran has referred to this balance and precise system in more than one instance (The sun should not overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day; each in an orbit is swimming).
Just as there is a system in the vast universe, we find a similar order in the small world within the atom, where electrons move in their orbits in search of balance and stability. In the pursuit of stability, there is a trade-off between two entities; it is an existential deal. Just as taking complements one side, stability is born from giving, and these ideas are manifested in the miracle of the chemistry of microscopic atoms. The active “sodium” atom gives part of its charge to the toxic “chlorine” atom to produce “table salt”.
As gain and sharing create stability, loss and giving can sometimes lead to the creation of a stronger version of ourselves, one that is more stable, balanced, and at peace, making life simpler and more beautiful. In the strangeness of existence, good and evil emerge from a single origin, with differing upbringings and directions. The universe nurtures the idea of variation in orientations and thoughts; just as “hydrogen,” a nuclear weapon created by humans and the most dangerous to human life, is the same element that combines with “oxygen” to produce the foundation of life (water). Here lies the responsibility of humans in making good choices between building and destroying, and between good and evil.
These truths we live without realizing their depth in our world, where we only perceive the limits of our visible spectrum. They are a call for contemplation and unleashing the insight, granting the heart tranquility and acceptance of God’s wisdom in a universe whose mercy encompasses everything within it.
