وافق الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، على إعلان حالة الطوارئ في عشر ولايات بجنوب شرق الولايات المتحدة، مع استمرار تأثير عاصفة شتوية قوية تضرب مناطق واسعة من البلاد. وأعلن الرئيس الأمريكي، في منشور على منصة «تروث سوشيال»، موافقته على إعلان حالة الطوارئ في ولايات تينيسي، وجورجيا، وكارولاينا الشمالية، وماريلاند، وأركنساس، وكنتاكي، ولويزيانا، وميسيسيبي، وإنديانا، وفرجينيا الغربية. وأوضح ترمب أن إدارته تعمل بتنسيق وثيق مع حكام الولايات المتأثرة والوكالة الفيدرالية لإدارة الطوارئ، في إطار الاستعدادات الجارية للتعامل مع تداعيات العاصفة، داعياً الأمريكيين إلى توخي الحيطة والحفاظ على سلامتهم. وكان الرئيس الأمريكي قد وافق في وقت سابق على إعلان حالة الطوارئ في ولايات أخرى تقع ضمن مسار العاصفة، من بينها كارولاينا الجنوبية وفرجينيا، حيث تتيح هذه الإعلانات رفع بعض القيود مؤقتاً على الإنفاق، بما يمكّن حكومات الولايات من تسريع توفير الموارد وطلب المساعدات الفيدرالية. وأعلنت ما لا يقل عن 20 ولاية أمريكية حالة الطوارئ، تشمل ألاباما، وأركنساس، وديلاوير، وجورجيا، وكانساس، وكنتاكي، ولويزيانا، وماريلاند، وميسيسيبي، وميسوري، ونبراسكا، ونيوجيرسي، ونيومكسيكو، ونيويورك، وكارولاينا الشمالية، وأوهايو، وكارولاينا الجنوبية، وتينيسي، وفرجينيا، وفرجينيا الغربية. وتغطي الثلوج والجليد مساحة تمتد لأكثر من ألفي كيلومتر داخل الولايات المتحدة، مع توقعات بامتداد تأثير العاصفة من ولاية تكساس إلى نيو إنجلاند خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع، على مسافة تتجاوز ثلاثة آلاف كيلومتر. كما تشهد مناطق واسعة من جنوب البلاد انقطاعات متزايدة في التيار الكهربائي نتيجة تراكم الجليد، الذي أدى إلى سقوط أشجار وأضرار بخطوط الكهرباء، وسط تحذيرات من احتمال فقدان مئات الآلاف للخدمة لعدة أيام.

وأدت العاصفة إلى إلغاء أكثر من 13 ألف رحلة جوية، إضافة إلى إغلاق أجزاء من الطرق السريعة بسبب الظروف الجوية الخطرة.

U.S. President Donald Trump approved the declaration of a state of emergency in ten states in the southeastern United States, as a powerful winter storm continues to impact wide areas of the country. The U.S. President announced, in a post on the “Truth Social” platform, his approval of the emergency declaration in the states of Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana, and West Virginia. Trump explained that his administration is working closely with the governors of the affected states and the Federal Emergency Management Agency as part of ongoing preparations to deal with the storm’s aftermath, urging Americans to exercise caution and ensure their safety. The U.S. President had previously approved the emergency declaration in other states within the storm’s path, including South Carolina and Virginia, where these declarations allow for the temporary lifting of certain spending restrictions, enabling state governments to expedite resource provision and request federal assistance. At least 20 U.S. states have declared a state of emergency, including Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Snow and ice cover an area extending over two thousand kilometers within the United States, with forecasts predicting the storm’s impact will stretch from Texas to New England over the weekend, covering a distance of more than three thousand kilometers. Additionally, large areas of the southern U.S. are experiencing increasing power outages due to ice accumulation, which has led to fallen trees and damage to power lines, amid warnings that hundreds of thousands may lose service for several days.

The storm has caused the cancellation of more than 13,000 flights, in addition to the closure of parts of highways due to hazardous weather conditions.
