يستقبل الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، قائد فريق النصر النجم البرتغالي كريستيانو رونالدو، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، في البيت الأبيض، بحسب ما أوردته صحيفة «ميرور» البريطانية.

وأضافت أن 3 مسؤولين في البيت الأبيض أكدوا لقاء كرستيانو بالرئيس الأمريكي. وتابعت أنه من المتوقع أن يخوض المنتخب البرتغالي بقيادة كريستيانو رونالدو مواجهة ودية ضد الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية قبل كأس العالم 2026، إذ ستتم مناقشة هذا الأمر.

ويأتي هذا اللقاء المفاجئ في الوقت الذي تتجه فيه الأنظار إلى تأهل البرتغال إلى كأس العالم 2026، الذي تستضيفه الولايات المتحدة وكندا والمكسيك، مما يضيف طابعا رياضيا إلى الزيارة الدبلوماسية.

وفي تصريح سابق، أعرب رونالدو عن إعجابه بترمب خلال مقابلة مع الصحفي البريطاني بيرس مورغان، قائلا: «إنه أحد الأشخاص الذين يمكنهم تغيير العالم أو المساعدة في تغييره، هدفي الرئيسي هو مقابلة ترمب ومناقشة السلام العالمي».

وكان رونالدو، البالغ من العمر 40 عاما، أحد أعظم لاعبي كرة القدم في التاريخ، إذ حقق 5 جوائز الكرة الذهبية وحطم العديد من الأرقام القياسية، بما في ذلك أكثر هداف في تاريخ المنتخبات الوطنية بـ133 هدفا؛ أرسل قميصا موقعا إلى ترمب مكتوبا عليه: «إلى الرئيس دونالد ترمب.. مع التحية، كريستيانو رونالدو».

وبدأت القصة في يوليو الماضي، عندما أعرب رونالدو عن رغبته في لقاء ترمب لمناقشة «السلام العالمي»، مشيرا إلى أنهما يشتركان في «شيء مشترك» غير محدد، ومع تأهل البرتغال إلى كأس العالم 2026 بعد فوزها 9-1 على أرمينيا في 17 نوفمبر -وهو أول تأهل مباشر للبرتغال كفائزة على المجموعة F في التصفيات الأوروبية- أصبح اللقاء أكثر أهمية.

وتُعد البرتغال السابعة في قائمة المنتخبات الأوروبية المتأهلة، إلى جانب إنجلترا وفرنسا وألمانيا وهولندا وكرواتيا والنرويج، وسط توقعات بأن يشارك رونالدو في البطولة كواحد من النجوم البارزين.

It added that three officials at the White House confirmed the meeting between Cristiano and the U.S. President. It continued that the Portuguese national team, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, is expected to play a friendly match against the United States before the 2026 World Cup, where this matter will be discussed.

This unexpected meeting comes at a time when attention is turning to Portugal’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, adding a sporting dimension to the diplomatic visit.
